Uniform Policy
The purpose of our uniform policy is to support Muwekma Ohlone Middle School’s Bear Pride, enhance school safety, improve the learning environment and promote positive behavior and self-identity.
We have a clothes closet where gently used and new items are available for Ohlone students.
Laundry facilities are also available for students that need assistance.
There is a change and update in uniform policy since the letter that was sent in June regarding Pro Club clothing. Please read the following statement to see that Pro Club attire is considered gang-affiliated and will not be permitted clothing on campus.
Per San José Unified School District’s Handbook, attire or grooming depicting or advocating violence, criminal activity, gang-related activity ( including professional sports wear and/or colors identified by Santa Clara County Sheriff or San Jose Police Department as gang-affiliated), use of alcohol or drugs, pornography, or hate speech are prohibited. Specifically, this year we will not be allowing the following items on campus:
Baseball caps
Beanies with logos
Pro Club attire
Clothing with professional sports logos
Clothing items with the “Cookies” logo and or other cannabis or alcohol companies
The following are all prohibited:
Clothing or accessories that may be gang-related
All references to San Jose (SJ, ESSJ, San Jo, Shark City, 408, etc.)
Sexually suggestive
All sports team attire
Anything referring to substances illegal for minors including: Billionaire Boys Club, Cookies, etc.
Any clothing or accessories that are any tint or shade of red or blue.
No PE shirt outside of PE class
No Pajamas unless it is a spirit day
Below are the appropriate clothing attire to exhibit our ROAR expectations.
SHIRTS
Crew-neck or collared shirt colored green,white,gray or black
Logos must be no larger than 3”
School-sponsored shirts
OUTERWEAR
Green, gray, white or black, crew-neck school outerwear (sweatshirt or jacket)
Logos no larger than 3”
BOTTOMS
Solid colored bottoms
No shades of red or blue (except for denim jeans)
Appropriately sized, sitting at natural waist
No rips / holes / modifications
PE
School-issued PE uniform (available for purchase sizes are limited)
PE teachers will review dress code in class
SHOES
Closed-toe shoes only
No slides, sandals, slippers, or Crocs
No tints or shades of red or blue
BACKPACKS, PE BAGS & SCHOOL SUPPLIES
No shades of red or blue.
No modifications (writing, drawing, etc.)
IN GENERAL
Anything not listed above, please refer to SJUSD “Minimum Safe Attire” requirements.
Hats and other head coverings are not permitted on school grounds except when worn as sun-protective clothing as prescribed by the student’s physician, as an expression of religious beliefs, or when the principal determines that extreme cold weather warrants it. Hats and head coverings must not be any tint or shade of Red or Blue.
Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs, shop classes, and other activities where unique hazards or specialized attire or safety gear is required.
